Statement of Purpose
Why a federation of hunting dog fanciers? What do beaglers, coon hunters, bear hunters, fox hunters, and bird hunters with pointers, setters and retrievers have in common that they should unite to form a federation? The answer - They all face a threat! The threat exists in attempts to deny our ancient, inherent, and legal right to free cast our dogs be it for training, field-trialing, or hunting. Sportsmen and sportswomen are constantly under attack by the news media, animal rights groups, and by those who persuade the public to request the enactment of laws, rules, and regulations restricting the use of dogs for sport hunting. As a result, on August 5th, 1990, the Michigan Hunting Dog Federation was formed.
